Is there demand for retail and sales jobs in the Gulf?

Yes, in our reading. The research lists hospitality and retail together, with cashier as an example role, tourism and events as the demand signal, and high search volume with low-to-medium advertiser value. That is the author's estimate, not measured search data. It gives no store hiring numbers.

The July 2025 Gulf News roundup, based on DSS HR, names hospitality, with housekeeping, culinary and front desk roles, among the main hiring sectors, next to construction, oil and gas, healthcare, technology and renewable energy. Cashier and shop work are not named in it, so we treat retail demand as our reading.

The wider flow is large. Pakistan sent 317,436 workers abroad in the first half of 2026, 58 percent to Saudi Arabia (183,951), then the UAE (50,773) and Qatar (34,025), according to TechJuice, using Bureau of Emigration plus Overseas Employment Corporation data. No count by occupation was published, so we cannot say how many went into retail.

Do Ramadan and Eid change pay and hours for shop staff?

They can change hours. The research lists Ramadan working hours and Eid holiday salary as common worker searches. TalentMate reports reduced hours in Ramadan, while other sources say hiring stays strong. Ask any store employer in writing about Ramadan hours and Eid pay.

Ramadan ran 19 February to 22 March in 2026. For 2027 the dates are approximate, about early February to early March. Sources disagree on hiring in that month: TalentMate (Dubai-focused) reports fewer postings, while Bayt and recruiters quoted by Khaleej Times say demand stays strong in areas such as logistics, food, healthcare and customer service.

What should I ask a store employer before I say yes?

Ask who employs you, the exact role, pay in writing with any targets, shift and Ramadan hours, accommodation, and who holds your passport. The research lists contract substitution, unpaid wages, poor accommodation, passport confiscation and medical rejection as common problems.

1. 1 Who is the employer on the visa and contract, and which store or branch? Ask for both in writing. A different employer or job on arrival is contract substitution.
2. 2 What is the exact role: cashier, sales, stacking or store helper? Ask that the role is written in the contract.
3. 3 What is the pay, with allowances on separate lines? If sales targets or bonuses exist, ask how they are counted and whether they change the base pay.
4. 4 What are the shift hours, days off and Ramadan hours? Ask what happens to pay on Eid holidays.
5. 5 Where will you live and who pays? Poor accommodation is a listed problem. Ask how many share a room and how you get to work.
6. 6 Who holds your passport? Our advice: it must be you. A demand for the original passport is a warning sign.
7. 7 What happens if the medical says unfit? Ask before you pay for any test.
8. 8 Is there a fee? Our advice: UAE employers cannot charge recruitment costs, directly or indirectly. Treat a fee request as a serious red flag.
9. 9 Can you verify the offer? For the UAE, MOHRE lets you check it on its website or app, or on 600 590000. A genuine offer carries a serial number and barcode.

What do cashiers and sales staff earn?

The research gives no retail pay figure, so we print none. We show ranges only when they come from live listings. Use the salary calculator, and compare the whole package: basic pay, allowances, housing, food, transport and any bonus, each as its own line in the written offer.

Women workers are a distinct segment in the research, named for nursing, hospitality and domestic work, with added safety and rights concerns. Does summer heat matter for retail work?

The research heat material is about outdoor work, so it gives no retail-specific heat rule. If your post involves outdoor work such as car park or loading tasks, ask about shade and water. Saudi Arabia banned outdoor work noon to 3pm, 15 June to 15 September in 2025.
