Security Guard Jobs: what our research says

Guard work is steady demand in our reading of the research, but the research gives no pay figure for guards, so this page prints none. It explains what the research does say about demand, what to ask before you accept an offer, how summer heat matters for outdoor posts, and where to compare pay.

Figures come from our 2026 market research and the sources listed at the end. Where a claim comes from a secondary source, or is our own reading, we say so.

Is there demand for security guard jobs in the Gulf?

Yes, in our reading. The research lists security and facilities work, including guards, as steady demand with a lot of search interest. It does not publish guard hiring numbers. What it does show is a very large flow of Pakistani workers to the Gulf, most of it to Saudi Arabia.

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment and the Overseas Employment Corporation counted 317,436 Pakistani workers leaving for jobs abroad in the first half of 2026 (reported by TechJuice). About 58 percent, or 183,951, went to Saudi Arabia. The UAE took 50,773 and Qatar 34,025. No count by occupation was published, so we cannot say how many of them were guards.

The July 2025 Gulf News roundup of in-demand roles, based on DSS HR, names construction, oil and gas, hospitality, healthcare, technology and renewable energy as the main hiring sectors. Guards are not named in it. We do not want to guess which sector a guard post belongs to. The employer's post should say who the client is and where you will stand.

Search interest is a separate signal. In our own 2026 analysis (the author's estimate, with no measured search volumes), queries such as security guard jobs Riyadh salary are common, and guard searches have low commercial value. We read that as many people looking for the same kind of post. That is a reason to check each offer carefully, not a reason to hurry.

Who looks for guard work, and what do they fear?

In our reading, most are first-time migrants, roughly 20 to 32 years old, with secondary education, searching on a phone in Urdu, Roman Urdu or English. Their main fear is losing their savings to a fake agent. Relatives often search too, to check that the offer is real.

This profile is our synthesis of the market data, not the result of a survey. Our reading: the research says a failed visa is a financial and family crisis — workers often borrow money or sell assets to pay for departure. The News (2 August 2026) reports that victims of visa fraud typically lose Rs800,000 to Rs1 million each.

If you are the parent, spouse or sibling of the worker, use the checklist below together with him. Ask for every answer in writing. A real employer can put a job, a site and a salary on paper.

What does a security guard earn in Riyadh, Dubai or Doha?

The research we rely on gives no salary figure for guards, so we do not print one. We show pay ranges only when they come from live listings. Use the salary calculator, and compare the whole package, not one number in a message.

Two guard offers with the same headline pay can be very different once you add up what you pay for. Ask for these items, each written separately:

  • Basic pay, and each allowance with its own amount.
  • Who provides housing, food and transport, and whether anything is deducted from wages.
  • Hours per shift, days off, and how extra hours are paid.
  • The currency of the offer: riyal (SAR) for Saudi Arabia, dirham (AED) for the UAE.
  • How wages are paid. The research lists the wage protection system as a concept to check with the official authority of the country.

Open the salary calculator for this category. It shows a range from live listings when enough real ones exist, and says clearly when it does not.

What should I ask before I say yes to a guard job?

Ask who the employer is, where you will work, what the pay is in writing, where you will live, and who holds your passport. The research lists contract substitution, unpaid wages, poor accommodation, passport confiscation and medical rejection as common problems. These questions target each one.

  1. 1 Who is the employer named on the visa and contract? Ask for the company name and the site, in writing. This protects you from contract substitution: a different job, pay or location on arrival.
  2. 2 Is the salary in the written offer the same as in the chat message? Ask for basic pay and allowances as separate lines.
  3. 3 What are the shift hours, and is the post indoors or outdoors? The answer decides how much summer heat affects you (see below).
  4. 4 Where will I live, and who pays? Poor accommodation is on the research's list of common problems.
  5. 5 Who keeps my passport? Our advice: it must be you. A demand for your original passport is a warning sign in the research.
  6. 6 What happens if my medical test says unfit? Medical rejection is a listed problem. Get the answer before you spend money on the medical.
  7. 7 Is there any fee for the visa, the job or registration? In the UAE, employers cannot charge workers recruitment costs, directly or indirectly. Treat such a request as a serious red flag.
  8. 8 Can I verify the offer with the authority? For the UAE, MOHRE (the labour ministry) lets you verify an offer on its website or app, or on 600 590000. A genuine offer carries a serial number and a barcode.
  9. 9 Who do I call if wages are late? Two months unpaid is a listed emergency trigger. Ask which official channel you would use, then read our rights guide.

Is guard work outdoors, and what about summer heat?

Some guard posts may involve standing outdoors, but the research does not say which. Where work is outdoors, Saudi Arabia banned it from noon to 3pm, 15 June to 15 September in 2025. Confirm the 2026 dates on the ministry site. Ask whether your post is indoors or outdoors before you accept.

The Saudi ban covered all private-sector firms and violations can be reported on hotline 19911 or through the ministry app (Saudi Press Agency). A Saudi Gazette headline shows the same window for the current year, but we could not open the article, so check the ministry site. We do not know whether a specific guard post falls under the ban. Ask the employer.

Human Rights Watch (June 2026) found that time-based bans are not enough. Workers in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE reported dizziness, fainting, poor access to cool water and pressure to work through the hottest hours. The report rests on 20 interviews, so treat it as indicative. Qatar uses a heat measure called WBGT, with a threshold of 32.1C to halt outdoor work.

If you feel dizzy or unwell on shift, stop, get into shade, drink water and get medical help. Before you accept a summer post, ask about shade, drinking water and rest breaks. Our heat safety guide has more.

Guard jobs in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar: what the research says

Saudi Arabia takes the most Pakistani workers. The UAE and Qatar follow. Rights differ by country, and the rights details below come from a secondary source, AYK Global, so confirm each on the official portal before you rely on it.

CountryPakistani departures, H1 2026What the research addsAsk for a guard post
Saudi Arabia 183,951 (58%) Job change possible after contract terms via Qiwa (reported). Exit permission reported as not needed since mid-2025. Passport retention prohibited. Whether the post is indoors or outdoors, and who provides accommodation.
UAE 50,773 (about 16%) Employers cannot charge recruitment costs. Job change allowed under Federal Law 33/2021, with a 90-day grace after termination. No exit permit. Passport retention prohibited, enforcement uneven. The offer serial number and barcode, verified with MOHRE.
Qatar 34,025 (about 11%) No former-employer consent needed to change job. No exit permit for about 95% of workers. Passport retention prohibited. WBGT 32.1C halt threshold. Whether outdoor shifts follow the heat threshold.

Domestic workers are largely excluded from these reforms. The research found no reliable rights detail for Kuwait, Bahrain or Oman.

When is the best time to look for guard jobs?

The research gives no guard-specific calendar. Dubai-focused sources show hiring peaks in January-February, after Ramadan, and September-November, with a summer slowdown. Saudi and blue-collar demand likely follows project cycles and visa quotas more than budget cycles. Test this yourself.

Sources disagree on Ramadan: TalentMate reports fewer postings, while Bayt and recruiters quoted by Khaleej Times say hiring stays strong. See our best time to apply guide. Real deadlines come from the employer, not from a chat message that says you must pay today.

Checks that apply to every job

  • Never pay for a visa, an offer or a promised job, and never hand over your original passport. See how to check a Gulf job offer.
  • In Pakistan, register through the official Emigrant's Protection route. See the [Pakistan emigration process](/guides/pakistan-emigration-process).
  • Know your rights once you arrive. See the [Gulf worker rights guide](/guides/gulf-worker-rights-2026).

We list jobs only. We are not a recruiter or a government body, we never charge job seekers, and we never take passports.
