As a telephone operator, your role is to ensure that all incoming calls are handled efficiently and professionally. You will be responsible for answering all incoming calls promptly, identifying the caller's needs, and directing them to the appropriate department or individual. It's essential that you possess outstanding communication skills as you'll be interacting with customers of varying backgrounds.
In addition to answering and transferring calls, telephone operators are also responsible for maintaining accurate records of all incoming and outgoing phone traffic. This includes logging details such as date, time, duration of call, name of the caller/recipient etc. Other job responsibilities include managing voicemail systems by recording greetings, monitoring messages left by callers and forwarding them to relevant personnel.
As a telephone operator it's also important that you maintain a friendly demeanor while working under pressure in order to create a positive experience for callers.
