Method
How this tool works
It uses two sources so the result is as close as possible.
Jobs on our site
We first look for matching jobs on the site. With 3 or more, the range comes from what those employers offer.
Estimate when data is thin
With fewer than 3 matching jobs on this site, an estimate model fills the gap. These estimates are not official wage data; they are a guide only.
Your result
Your pay is compared with the average and marked Below Market, Fair or Above Average, with a simple savings estimate.
Context
Why Gulf salaries look different from home
Housing can be free
Many Gulf employers provide accommodation or a housing allowance. This is a large part of what makes the package valuable — check your offer letter carefully to see exactly what is included.
Transport is often covered
Employer-provided transport to and from the worksite is common, especially in construction, manufacturing and hospitality. It reduces what you spend to get to work.
No income tax (Gulf only)
The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not tax workers on income from employment. The salary figure on your contract is generally what you take home before any personal remittances or spending. Italy is different: income tax and social contributions are deducted, so take-home pay is lower than the gross figure.
Compare total packages
A lower cash salary with free housing, transport and meals may leave more in your pocket than a higher cash number where you pay for everything yourself. The calculator shows savings after rough assumptions — check the actual benefits in your contract.
Pay factors
What affects how much you are paid
Our reading of the research on Gulf labour markets.
Country
The same job can pay a different rate depending on the country. The UAE generally has a more developed wage-verification system (MOHRE); Saudi Arabia is the largest market by volume; Qatar has a smaller but significant expat workforce.
Job category
Pay varies widely by sector. Oil and gas, healthcare and technology command higher rates than packing, cleaning or basic security. Within construction, a skilled trades worker typically earns more than a general labourer.
Experience and skills
Employers offering skilled roles, including drivers with heavy-vehicle licences, healthcare workers with Gulf experience, or technicians with trade certificates, tend to pay above entry-level rates for the same category.
Company size and type
Large contractors and multinational employers often pay more and provide better packages than small or local subcontractors. Giga-projects in Saudi Arabia (NEOM, Red Sea Project) and large UAE developers have attracted significant recruitment activity.
Benefits package
An offer with free meals, medical insurance, annual flights home and end-of-service gratuity (as required by UAE and Saudi law) is worth more than cash pay alone. Compare the full package, not only the monthly figure.
Your negotiating position
Workers already in the Gulf switching to a better employer, or those with Gulf experience, are typically in a stronger position to negotiate than first-time applicants. The calculator result gives you a data point to start that conversation.

What to do with your result
Browse current listings in your category and country. Compare the pay figures employers are posting now. Use those numbers when you speak to your employer or agent about your contract.
Your pay is broadly in line with what employers are listing. Check that your benefits package (housing, transport, medical) is also complete — a fair salary with missing benefits is worth less than it looks.
Your pay is strong for this category. Keep a record of your contract terms, especially end-of-service gratuity and annual leave entitlements, so you know what you are owed when the contract ends or renews.

FAQ
Questions about Gulf pay
Tips
Before you accept an offer
-
1
Read the full offer letter, not just the salary
The monthly cash figure is only part of the package. Confirm what housing, transport, meals, medical insurance and annual flights the employer provides, and whether they are guaranteed or discretionary.
-
2
Check end-of-service gratuity terms
UAE and Saudi Arabia law requires employers to pay gratuity on contract end. Ask how it is calculated before you sign, so you know what you are entitled to after one year, three years or more.
-
3
Compare in local currency first
Offers in the local currency (AED, QAR, SAR or EUR) are easier to compare directly. Convert to your home currency only for remittance planning — the exchange rate changes, but your costs abroad do not.
-
4
Verify the company before you decide
A good salary offer is worth nothing from a fraudulent company. Check the employer on the MOHRE site (UAE), Qiwa (Saudi Arabia) or the Qatar labour ministry before you commit. Read our guide on checking a Gulf job offer.
-
5
Ask about the job-change rules
In the UAE, workers can change employers after the probation period under the current law. Saudi Arabia's Qiwa portal handles job-change requests after one year. Qatar has reformed its exit permit system. Know the rules before you are in a situation where you need them.
-
6
Do not pay to get a job
UAE employers are prohibited from charging workers recruitment costs directly or indirectly. Any request for visa money, a deposit or a registration fee from the company or its agent is a serious red flag. Official BEOE fees in Pakistan are separate from any payment a company demands.
Browse jobs that show pay
Listings show the salary the employer stated. Where no salary is given, we show a clearly marked estimate. Filter by country or job type.
